Welcome
I have decided to create a blog dedicated to
the Neoclassical
Era. The human condition is thought to be more heavily reflected in writings
expressing the behaviors, beliefs and practices of the time however, this blog
will prove that fashion, art, and architecture served as an aesthetic outlet of
the ‘new’ intimate way of thought, logic, and reason the Neoclassical period is
said to bring forth. To begin with, this blog is catered to the women of the
time and their grand influence on fashion, art, and architecture. With the onset of new thinking,
women began to view themselves differently and although they lacked in the
political, medical, and ethical arenas, women used fashion to define their
status. The social identity constructed by women was solely dependent on
fashion to signify their place to social culture. Fashion affirmed women roles
and was strategically used as an instrument in regulating their femininity.
Fashion as a lens to examine the rising culture was material language that were
the distinction between groups. Further, this blog will delve into the way Neoclassical women flourished in other visual outlets such as art (painting) and architecture
(buildings and furniture). With the onset of new thought and logic came the
revival of distant Greek and Roman styles that were imitated and portrayed in the
new creations of paintings and sculptures alike, accommodating the ‘classical’ part of
Neo-classicism. In choosing a blog for this creative project allows me to
showcase the fashions, arts, and architectural designs visually instead of
traditional essay writing. In doing so, the reader will be able to see examples
of work and not merely rely on imagining them through text. Finally, the audience will be able to distinctively recognize women's influence as an authority of the time in areas that were not restricted to the gendered male.
